First Federal’s FLASHdepositSM makes remote deposits easy and secure. There is little software to install and virtually no IT related costs. Once you open your account and get your scanner, you can access your portal and start enjoying all the benefits of FLASHdepositSM.

How does FLASHdepositSM work?
Using a special scanner, FLASHdepositSM reads your deposit images which are then transmitted to us in real time via the Internet. The application will guide your employees through the process of scanning checks, and balancing and approving the submission of deposits. Even if the initial scan is unsuccessful, poor quality images will be flagged so they can be re-scanned.

How secure is FLASHdepositSM?
FLASHdepositSM features multiple layers of security including password protection, Internet firewalls, and encryption - the highest level of security available. First Federal stores the check and deposit data on our servers, and no data is required to be stored at your location.

Is there a cost to participate?
There is a cost to participate in FLASHdepositSM including an initial set-up fee, a monthly service fee, per items deposited fee and the cost of the scanner. Other fees to be outlined by Business Services.

What do I need to get started?
  • A PC with a current version of Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2 or Windows Vista, MS Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater and a USB 2.0 port.
  • 1.5 GB free disk space
  • A high-speed Internet connection and AC power outlet.
  • A supported desktop check scanner and softw

How do I sign up for FLASHdepositSM?
Contact a member of the Business Services Department at 843-529-5752. There is an easy application process to follow, and before you know it, you will be depositing checks from the comfort of your office.

How will we logon for the first time?
  • You will receive the scanner hardware by UPS. UPS will notify the FLASHdepositSM helpdesk that your scanner has arrived and call you to set an installation and training time. Please call your Corporate Services Officer once you have scheduled an appointment for training.
  • You will receive via secure email a login ID and password. Keep them handy until installation day.
  • On installation and training day, you will call the FLASHdepositSM helpdesk for assistance.

Will training be available?
  • There is an online help system available on the system.
  • You will also receive a quick reference guide with your scanner.

How long does it take to implement Remote Deposit Capture?
The implementation period ranges from 7 to 10 business days.

What types of checks can be deposited?
  • All personal and business U.S. checks and Postal money orders can be processed through FLASHdepositSM.
  • All Foreign Checks and Savings Bonds must be deposited traditionally.

Do I have to use a deposit ticket?
No, a deposit ticket should not be used. Once you submit your deposit, a virtual deposit ticket will be generated.

May we redeposit an item that has been returned?
An approver may redeposit an item that has been returned for insufficient funds or missing endorsement. You will not be able to redeposit an item that has been returned for account closed or payment stopped.

Can check information be manually entered for unreadable items?
Yes, routing number, account number and amount can be manually entered for individual items that the scanner cannot read.

Can we scan items that have been highlighted or written on with gel pens?
It is not recommended for the following reasons:
  • Gel pen residue may damage the lens in the scanner resulting in poor image quality.
  • Most gel pen colors are not picked up by the scanner resulting in missing information on the check image.
  • Most highlighter colors can not be read by the scanner resulting in black lines covering important information.
  • Black or blue ballpoint pens are preferred.

Can a check be scanned and deposited twice?
The software has a built-in tool that detects items already captured. If the software detects a potential duplicate check, an alert prompts you to make a decision about the item in question.

What do I do with the original checks?
  • Scanned checks cannot act as a receipt. Scanned items will need to be endorsed with a stamp provided by First Federal stating they have been electronically deposited.
  • The business will retain each check in a locked secure device for at least 65 days after the check has been scanned and processed. After this retention period, the originals should be securely destroyed.

How do I verify my checks were scanned successfully?
Verification is available by viewing the FLASHdepositSM secure Web site, which will show your deposits as they are processed.

What is the deposit cutoff time for same day deposit?
  • Your business can transmit electronic deposits to the bank around the clock every day.
  • The cutoff time for credit on today’s business day 5:00 pm EST.
